Episode 2: Storytelling & Social Video Sharing

Speaker: Karen Cartales

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

Important clarification: Some members thought that our previous speaker would be back for a second presentation in May. This is not the case. In May we are building on the insights for crafting effective storytelling that were discussed in April. This time we will hear from a new speaker from a very promising company that is using storytelling to drive their exceptional growth.

Karen Cartales In May, please join us to hear from Karen Cartales from Contour who is at the center of two very hot topics: Storytelling and Social Video Sharing. If you aren't already thinking about social video, you probably should be. Currently, 80% of all adult internet users frequently watch social videos and it is predicted social video will account for 90% of all internet traffic in just 3 years. Social video sharing is booming and is something that should be on every leader's radar, especially since it is a perfect conduit for storytelling. Karen will share their insights, their experiences and will outline tips for how mainstream organizations can adopt and benefit from this growing channel.

As VP of Marketing for Contour, Karen is responsible for building the Contour brand. She is leading a unique approach by using consumers’ video stories and original video content to help tell the story of the company. Often working closely with partners and complementary audiences, Karen is positioning Contour to be a leader in the social video capture and sharing space.

Prior to Contour, Karen was with Microsoft, where she led the worldwide marketing launch of one of the top strategic initiatives for Microsoft in 2010: Windows Phone 7. This included the global development of the brand identity and integrated marketing and advertising initiatives.

The majority of Karen’s career, over 15 years, was with Nike, Inc. At Nike, she led in areas such as integrated marketing, global advertising, film and video production as well as worked with over 100 athletes across a variety of sports.

Karen also brings experience from a start-up TV and digital sports network, College Sports Television (since acquired by CBS) as well as the re-branding and promotions for two TV networks: Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network resulting in historic viewership levels.
